The Chemex is an easy and convenient at home brewing method. It's very similar to other drip methods and a favorite for many coffee enthusiasts. Our favorite part about Chemex is that we can make enough for our crew to share!
Begin by weighing out about 50-60 grams of fresh coffee and grind it. The grind will be similar in coarseness to that of a French Press.
Fold your filter.
Place your filter in your Chemex.
Begin to pour in your hot water, rinsing and saturating the filter while warming up the Chemex. After about a minute you can empty this water out.
Pour the freshly ground coffee into the filter.
Beginning at the center of the grounds, gently pour twice the amount of hot water (200 degrees Fahrenheit) to coffee into the grounds. Since we used 50 grams of coffee, we will use 100 grams of water.
From the center you will continue pouring your way outward, avoiding the sides of the filter. You will begin to see the coffee bloom. Allow your coffee to bloom for 30-45 seconds, this ensures even water dispersion.
Continue pouring gently into the center of the grounds. The entire brew process should take approximately 4 minutes.
Pour your coffee into your mug and enjoy! For best results be sure to share with some friends!
